Think about what you want it to do. Besides reducing the recoil, it would also be nice to reduce the muzzle rise a little. Think Newton: "Opposite but equal reaction". If the 3 smaller round ports face down, they act like little rocket engines pushing the muzzle up as some of the blast gas is diverted downward. If you place them facing up, that diverted gas pushes the muzzle downward, reducing muzzle rise.

When my barrel and brake arrived this afternoon, it was another example of Ross' great work. Sadly, it is probably Ross' last piece of work as today, he sold his lathe and if I understood him correctly, his business interest, to his second in command. This should be a seamless transition but his friend will need a week or so to get everything set up at the new location and then continue on in Ross' tradition going forward.

I wish Ross success in whatever endeavor the future holds for him. He certainly gave a lot of members here and on other forums, great service and value.
