Shot the doe closest to the buck with Thumper. 35 yard shot, took off the top of the heart. She ran 10 yards and piled up. Very good blood trail, not that it was needed. Shot entered ahead of the shoulder, exited opposite side right in front of the diaphragm. Factory ammo. Sorry no post mortom pics. Buck was shot with 300 wsm 180 grain trophy copper tipped from Federal, 390 yards, neck shot. Dropped where he stood.

Nice shooting! I've taken my 450 out after Elk the last couple years, but haven't been able to get into any animals.

Thank you. I forgot to mention, the force of the impact from thumper collapsed the Deers windpipe even tho the bullet never touched it! That's some awesome killing power. I have yet I connect on an elk with thumper. I carried it again this year in the timber but never saw an elk.

I've hunted 38 for archery elk and muzzleloader elk on public land, but haven't had any luck. It's good to see someone find the animals.

I have not seen this many deer in Colorado since the early 1980s. Seems that the storms of 1983, 1988, 2003 and Chronic wasting disease that decimated the deer and to a lesser degree Pronghorn herds are finally getting beat.

Did you all catch the traffic jam in Evergreen last week when a herd of about 150 elk migrated through downtown?

Evergreen was my beat for several years and it was very common to have to stop for elk crossings. They are all over up there, but elk meadow is almost a given. Thanks to the rich folks up there, there isn't much hunting. The few people that hunt on their property or get permission usually generate calls to Jeffco.

We saw so many deer this year. Not one single elk tho. Of course they were all in Evergreen! LOL. Second season rifle did not pan our for us, we did our best in the third season. I hunted deer second and third season and elk in third and fourth season. Saw a rather large Bull Moose in fourth season near Green Mountain but that was it.
