First BM 450 kill

Postby DennisR » Wed Nov 19, 2014 5:18 am

Hi - this is my first post to the board.

I read a lot on this board before deciding to buy a BM 450 for Michigan hunting this year. I bought one and was impressed initially by the accuracy. But when I hunted with it, I was also impressed by its easy of carry. I really like this gun, but it is my first AR-style gun.

I used it on Nov 15 the first time, which is the Michgan gun opener. I sat in a blind overlooking a cut hay field, which is cut into a bedding thicket full of tall grass/shrubs/briars. I saw a few deer early (around 7:30AM) including several does and button bucks. I watched a spike chase a doe in and out of the thicket. Then at 9AM, I spotted movement and saw a buck that looked decent about to cut into the thicket on the far edge of my viewing window. I didn't have much time to get a shot off, about 2 seconds. I pulled up and shot, thinking I had hit either the base of the neck or the shoulder (broadside). Turned out I hit shoulder and took out both shoulders. Using the off-the-shelf Hornady ammo. Somehow he made it about 30 yards into the thicket and I ended up putting a second shot into the neck (as that was all I could see when I walked over there and I wasn't sure how disabled he was).

Here is a pic.

Welcome and congrats! That's a good size deer. Starting to rut by looks of him eh!?

Thanks guys. This was private land in Hillsdale county, southern Michigan. He weighed 180 lb dressed.

When I posted the picture, I used the upload to tiny pic function, but I noticed that it seems to cut off the picture. Especially on my iPad, can't see the deer's head. Is there a better way to upload a pic? The pic file was too large to use the upload attachment option.
