Opening day for firearms season was the worst for me that I can remember. Didn't see a single deer all day. However while I was waiting on legal shooting time for deer, this guy tried slipping across the field covered in frost. Too bad for him he isn't protected by such laws..
The 450 barked once and lights out.
Sunday and Monday morning I had better luck seeing some does and a spike that didn't want to seem to leave me. For Monday evening hunt I decided to take the climber into the woods and it was worth the work! About 5 o'clock I heard some crunching behind me that had the right rhythm. And when I turned my head to look behind me I saw this guy. When he let me I got him in the sights of the 450. He wouldn't stop walking, so I shot him moving. It was only about a 40 yard shot. Destroyed the shoulder he ran about twenty yards and collapsed trying to jump a hill. Was a good day, and now it looks like I'm on doe patrol for the rest of the year!
