450 vs. shoot through windows

Postby bushmeister » Mon Dec 05, 2011 10:19 pm

I bought a hunting blind with shoot through windows. The picture on the box shows mesh windows with perfect circular bullet holes in the window that can be replaced... well let me tell you, they don't hold up as well when subjected to the muzzle blast of the 450. I made a fine shot on a doe at 150 yds, and she crumpled up on the spot...but was pretty surprised to see what was left of my "shoot thru window"

Yup. And you know how a scope focuses around an up close object to the point it is transparent? The antenna on your truck fits that bill when you shoot off the hood!

Back in the late 1970s, I saw a guy crease his hood with a .308. He shot and there was suddenly a bunch of white flakes floating down out of the sky. :o It was the white paint he blew off his hood.

Late 70's also: My uncle cratered his pickup windshield trying to sight in a 12ga slug gun off the hood. Made for an exciting drive back home over backwoods country roads!

I wished he HAD shot it completely out...as it was we had to drive home, in the dark most of the way, looking through a giant glass spider web of cracks. I actually had to hang my head out the open passenger's window to help keep him on the road where there weren't any centerline stripes, or when there were oncoming headlights, which would turn the whole windshield into a glowing kaleidoscope.
