First blood with the Savage 45 Raptor

Postby Al in Mi » Thu Nov 16, 2017 5:43 pm

took him this morning with my Savage 45 Raptor and a 200gr Barnes over 52gr 300MP. 120yd shot thru shoulders, 30yd death run, typ Barnes performance.

If your not familiar with the 45R, it's a rimless 460 S&W created for the AR10 platform. Satern sells barrels for both platforms and they are very accurate barrels. 3gr diff in case capacity over the 450B so not much to be had, I just like matching bolt guns to my AR's. :o

Interesting that you chose 300MP over Lil Gun for the 200gr. Beautiful (as always) bullet expansion! What length is your barrel, I forget.

In Theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In Practice, there is.

22".

Lilgun was on my list to try at some point but as usual, ran out of time. The 52gr is max and does bug holes, I switched to Fed 215 primers and it eliminated about 90% of the case sooting I was having with regular CCI LR primers. The barrel does exceptionally well with the 250gr bonded SW and 47gr 300MP too, was a coin toss on what one to use.

Nice buck!!
The 200 gr Barnes looks more like a piece of art than a fired projectile

First look at onside shoulder wasn't much for damage, but the damage done to the offside shoulder was very impressive.
