2nd day of NY deer season. I was bumped from my stand at my buddy's place opening day yesterday. His "better" friend wanted to get this deer with his bow. I guess he's seen it a few times. I was rather pissed off but karma is a bitch.

243 LBC, 90 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip at 2900 fps. High Shoulder shot at 50 yards. Dropped the buck right there with a coup de gras from a 357 mag.

Nice deer and nice looking rig. I like rifles with rifle length barrels. Image

A question from the uninformed. My 24" Gen 1 6.5 Grendel will easily kick a Sierra 90gr bullet out the end at 2900 fps. Is there some advantage to dropping down to 6mm, over the 6.5?

Dropping down to 6mm gives one higher sectional density for better penetration and higher ballistic coefficients at long range.

I had a 243 Win while in my 20's and remember it dropping deer in their tracks quickly. This rifle looks like it will do the same. Some guys run the 243 LBC as fast as factory 243 Win's. I personally don't think that's the safest route in the long run. I think this round more favorably compares to a 250 Savage anyways and I feel a bit safer at those velocities. I think a cartridge with the power of a 250 Savage in an AR15 is pretty neat.
