Millett DMS-1

Postby rexican » Mon Jan 23, 2012 12:25 pm

I did a search, and a few have said they were going to use the DMS, and I was wondering how they are holding up.
I have one on my 16" 450 in a larue mount. I've only fired a hundred rounds or so with this setup, and so far it has held zero. Will it withstand the 450 recoil in the long run?
I plan on picking up a couple more larue mounts and having a higher magnification scope to switch over to for final tuning of my reloads.

I don't know everything (don't say that to my wife...), but the recoil pulse from the 450b doesn't seem to be the type that dismantles optics. That's not been a complaint that I've heard...

Millet's are plenty good scopes for most situations. The glass isn't as clear as a Leupold or Nightforce, etc but it's good for the money. I've owned a few and never had any issues as far as quality or loss of zero. Features wise they are good without having too many which generally results in a loss of quality in all aspects. It's a good scope for the money.

As far as recoil is concerned, if a scope can't stand up to the recoil of a .450 Bushmaster gas gun it surely wasn't meant to be put on any centerfire firearm. The 450 recoil is mild in the grand scheme of rifles. I swear that some folks create this supposed recoil to convince themselves that they are firing a 50 BMG or some such cannon. It just ain't so.

Mr. Rowdy is right on recoil of the 450B. It's advertised to be equivalent to a 20 Gauge. I think that is overstating it. I found it to be more like a 30-30 or a .410. And once I put the Noonan Recoil-less A1 stock on the 450B, along with one of Ross Schulers' custom brakes, my thumper is a kitten to shoot.
I just received and installed a prototype A2 Recoil-less stock for testing. This new prototype has yet to be tested on the accelerometer and utilizes one chamber for the "recoil reduction buffer and spring. I haven't shot it yet so stay tuned. I have way too much on my plate plus I'm waiting for the weather to settle down a bit so that the winds will die down.

thanks,
I have Ross's muzzle brake on my carbine, and there is no real recoil (but it does throw out some serious pressure and noise :D ). I seem to be a **** magnet when it comes to equipment/glass: I've killed a weaver scope with a .22 t/c, a simmons with a 10/22, etc.

I originally got the millett for a 3 gun setup, but found a deal on a nikon m223 I couldn't pass up, so the DMS found a home on my 450.
