penny for your thoughts on rear sights

Postby tridentarmory » Mon Feb 20, 2012 6:10 pm

We are going to be building some uppers that are using a flip up front sight gas block, on our normal upper design with a carbine length tube.
Company "A" builds a reasonably priced flip up rear sight, that is easy to get a lot of for production, but occasionally the recoil will cause the sight to flip down.... not good.

My question, who makes a reasonably priced flip up rear sight, that i wouldnt be ashamed of placing on a modest run of production rifles?

The Magpul MBUS is a positive-lock design, up and down. Polymer material. Fine piece of work, really. Retails about $32, oem cost unknown.

The Magpul really is a pretty nice sight but I think your company will suffer image problems with a lot of folks if you go with a "plastic" sight. There are several lock up type folding sights on the market that would work well and are made of metal. Some retail in the $50-80 range so you should be able to work a deal on a gang lot of them from the makers.

Yankee Hill has a flip up that locks up. See "sample"
At cheaper than dirt stock # ARR-9680. $79.97 retail.
At midway see sample stock# 124-330. $79.99 retail.
NcStar (yuck) has one for $21.97 at CTD. Stock #ARR- 597...
Don't know what material it's made of, locks up though.
I know you aren't gonna order from these guys, I'm just trying to
Get you a visual. I know you're gonna get your parts wholesale.

I've also got a ProMag PM200 rear iron that can be had for about $70 or so...locks in place. Its a clone of a GG&G design that runs about twice that much. Both fold down very low.

Since I use a scope on mine for bear hunting, I went with a 45 deg sight for BUIS:

at this point, im really looking into samson products, ive found their forearms to be bulletproof, and their sights are incredible.
struggling though, with the cost of them.
a upper with flip up sights is likely to increase the cost of the system by 200.00
