Optics considerations for the 450 Bushmaster?

I have spent the last several days scouring catalogs and web sites for a
Scope for my 450 BM 20" upper. I have concerns about scope durability
With the recoil of the 450 BM. I am finding many scopes but most have
BDC recticles preset for various rounds. Right now, I am looking at
a Pine Ridge scope designed for a marlin 444 lever action caliber and a 45-70.
For night use, I have a ATN MK 350 GEN 1.
I am also looking at some Simmons and Nikon scopes.
I have several Simmons scopes and they are all good.
I cannot afford EOTEC or ACOG. Any suggestions?

I have had bad luck with Nikon glass with autoloaders and heavy recoilers... I've never used a Simmons. I've got about 50 or so pieces of glass and tend to stay with US made Burris and Leupolds and stay away from their low line offerings. I do have many steel tube weavers that I had rebuilt. The guy that was rebuilding all of my weavers is out of parts and no longer can help me out. The only thing that kill these things is age.

I put one of these on a cousins Benelli R1 that has destroyed several other scopes and it has held up. http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?p ... ber=817249
and the price is good.

Might do a search here for ultimateslam. I've put a few hundred through mine so far with no durability issues. priced around $250. It has a BDC on it that is very close to our round when set at full power.

I put Simmons on both my A bolt 30-06 and my M77MKII 7mm Rem. Mag
Back in 1996 and took them to Colorado two years in a row, shot a muley
Up there in 97 with the 7mm mag and killed several deer since with both
Guns and back in 2005, shot a coyote at over 100 yards at night from the
Roof of my friends house with the 7mm Mag. and the only light in the pasture was some ambient
Fluorescent light coming from the window of his chicken barn and the scopes
Have never lost their zero since 1996. I used to buy bushnell scopes
But my Marlin 22 mag bolt action and my Marlin 30-30 ate them like
Candy. I was buying a new scope every year for the 30-30. One year
I had just put on a brand new Bushnell 3X9X40 on the 30-30, took it
To the range and zeroed it, took it deer hunting that weekend and
missed a nice buck at about 80 yards. I saw the bullet hit about three feet
in front of the buck. Totally ruined the whole day, so I drove back to Memphis
Straight back to the range, sure enough, something inside the scope
Had come loose and my gun was hitting about 4 feet to the right and a foot low
At 100 yards. I never could get it to zero so I took it back and bought
A Simmons. I have never had a problem since. Now most all of my
Scopes are Simmons except for a tactical scope for my A/R 5.56 and the
ATN MK 350.

+1 on the Leupy Ultimate Slam. Mine has over 500 rounds on it now with no issues. About half of them were 300 grainers, with sprinkling of 350s and 400s I was trying out. I put a RR 2 stage trigger in last week and was rewarded with several 1 1/2" groups @ 300 yards shooting the 250 grain FTX. Made my day :)

Primary Arms seems to have a good rep with their Aimpoint clones. Also came across this site the other dayhttp://www.red-dot-scopes.com/red-dot-sights.html and they have pretty good prices on their stuff. I have a 3-9 x 40 Bushnell 3200 muzzleloader scope and it's held up well. Just has a ton of eye relief and needs to sit farther forward than most scopes( I use the P.E.P.R. mount). Very clear glass and good visibility even past dusk.

I hunt in a mix of clear cut and heavily timbered terrain (that is just full of brush). I don't hunt the clear cuts other than edges and rarely have a shot over 200 yards. But Sunday I had a 10 point buck that was a mere 50 feet away, chasing a doe and two yearlings, and I could not pick him up in my optics because of the brush. I had a straight 4 power which has served me well in the past, but this opportunity was a perfect reason for open sights or a red dot. I didn't have my Fast Fire mounted on the scope tube like last year and now I wish I would have. A 1 x 4 would be perfect with an illuminated dot!

i have a nikon omega 3x9x40 on mine and i love it. i havent put a ton of rounds threw it, but after a couple hundred, it holds up nice. i dont shoot much over a hundred yards, and it is built for a muzzleloader so the recoil is ok on it. just my thought, for what it is worth. plus, i got a great deal on it :D

Well, was gonna add a picture but can't figure out how with my IPhone.
The Burris sounds pretty good. I still need to get a riser and scope.
I already have rings. There is a Cheaper than Dirt store about thirty mile
From my place so I will probably stop by there this weekend for
The riser. The Leapers Bipod on my 5.56 upper works great on the 450
So no need to invest in another. I am thnking on trying the 45-70 scope
Made by Pine Ridge (Cabelas) as a starting scope. But the Burris mentioned
In a earlier post also may get my attention. The Pine Ridge,
Cabelas is more fitting to my budget right now. And if I don't like
It, I may just put it on my PC 9. But there are also a few Simmons
And Nikons I want to investigate.
