What Optics are you using on your Thumper?

Postby Blasternank » Sun Sep 02, 2012 10:15 am

I'm curious as to what everyone is using. Also, why did you chose the one you did? Was it for hunting, punching holes in paper, etc? I was envisioning a 2-7 power, but would to hear what you have and why.

Thanks.

Go to the Board Index - 450 B section ar style (or type) rifles and page through the threads. There are several that address this topic. Also your choice will depend on your mission - hunting at longer ranges, tactical, target shooting at 100 yds or less, etc.

From what I've read the 450 BM is more or less a 200 yard rifle for hunting purposes and that is what I'd be using it for.

I tried several options and ended up with the Nikon Slughunter in 1-5 power. It is designed to stand up to recoil but is still fairly light and gives plenty of magnification for up to 200 yard shots on hogs. I put mine in Millett extra high steel rings that are strong and simple.

I built mine for hunting and installed a 1-4x20 leupold hd. Have shot at 200 yds and only complaint would be the heavy duplex covering almost an entire 8x11 sheet of paper. But still able to put all rounds on target and at 100 yds all bullets touching.

After looking at several options I went with a modest Nikon inline XR BDC. I have yet to test it @ 300 yards but it drills the 100 yard bulls!

+1 on the Nikon Inline XR. The 100 thru 200 yd reticles are dead on. I havent taken it out to 300 yet.

I agree w/ Jim from Houston optic to match mission. For hunting 200 yds.& under I opt for lower power variable (1x4 or2x7).

I followed the sales, and saved up to finally get a Zeiss 3-9x40.
