I currently have an older Leupold 3.5-10x40 VXIII mounted on the Beastmaster but I'm wanting something different. Open to suggestions, but have been looking at the Trijicon with the Triangle / Post reticle. So let me know what works for you, or what didn't for that matter.

It will be used for hunting deer/hogs. Mostly close range <100 yards with some shots a tad over a 100. Light gathering for early mornings/evenings is a must.

I like my Leupold Var XR 2-7. Great scope. Trujicon would be a great choice as well.

What power are you using, and how is it in low light conditions?

I'm trying the Weaver Grand Slam 1-5x. 30mm tube. That way I can shoot close in stuff with both eyes open. And I'll still have some magnification, at least for stuff out as far as the effective range of the slug. I had a red dot, Burris Fast Fire, but missed the magnification.

I have the 1-4 on my .223 ARs, the 1.5-6 on my .450 BM and the 4.5-14 on my dirty sniper .308 rig.

I've shot both the 1-4 and 1.5-6 in twilight and night and both are very good, the 1.5-6 might be a tad better. The 30mm tube is a big plus.

Good question. From the start, my .450 Bushmaster caliber rifle was intended for hunting bear. Since it is typical for any animal to go nocturnal during hunting season, I figured the most likely opportunities for a kill would be within legal hunting light at dawn or dusk. Being able to see as clearly as possible in those low light conditions would require the best glass I could afford. Zeiss, and Minox both use the legendary Schott glass, and Zeiss was on sale at the time. So, I picked up a 3-9x40 Zeiss Conquest and mounted it in a Burris P.E.P.R.

All good suggestions, but want at least 10 power as my vision is not good. I have also looked at the leupold Vxr in 4-12, any one have any other suggestions.

I'm running a 4-16 (M-308) on my AR 10 style carbine and I have a 6-18 X 50 on my 7mm RM. They work great but almost always on the lowest magnification.
I think if I could do it over on my thumper I'd go down from 3X9 to something in the 2.5-10 X

It's really a personal choice but you need FAST for some hogs. I'd kinda like to have a red dot holo sight for those up close encounters.
Nothing like looking through a 3X scope to see a patch of hair and no idea where on the body you're aiming? :?
