I've finally narrowed down the choices, and need your help. I would like to know if you have experience with these scopes (or other scopes in the line) and the advantages that lead you to choose one over the other. I definately want a lighted reticle, but don't know what color works best in all conditions, so this information would be helpful as well. This scope will be used to hunt deer/hogs, with most shots less than a hundred yards.

Did you consider the Burris MTACs? I think you have missed the best performing/value line of scopes under the $1K price tag.

I have experience with a different Leopold scope - very high quality (and price), very accurate and rugged. I like to 4-12 magnification on the scope I now use; probably not necessary at 50 yards, but beyond that it is hand to have that capability. Yes, go with the lighted reticle. You can always turn it off.

Why not the Leupold VXR-2-7? You have a rifle that is a 200 yard and in type rifle. Why do you need all the magnification? It seems excessive. If you need that much I'd vote for the VXR 3-9. I have a VXR 2-7 on both my 458 Socom and my 450 bushmaster.

I'm trying out Minox's new shotgun scope a 1.5 - 8x, with a zero resetable turrets. Seemed about perfect to me for the 450 Bushmaster. I had a VXR Patrol 1-4x, but I needed more magnification because the gun is just that accurate. 1 inch tube, longest eye relief I've ever seen, and cameraland has them for a steal. They use German glass and are assembled here in the US and have a lifetime warranty. They even have a 2-10x one too! I'll report back after I've had a chance to hunt w/ it.

A matter of necessity, i'm in my 30's with eyes that were born in the 30's.

Thanks for all the info, keep it coming. One of the reasons for the higher power / larger objective is that I have bad eyes, especially in lower light conditions. That is why I have steered away from lower power scopes as they usually have smaller objectives.

Look at the 3.5x10 MTAC then. Vortex also has great glass, but more $.

My Nikon African 1x4. German #4 has been pretty awsome for me ,,,very crisp and clear ,,bold lines help in low light !!!!
