I have used the Leupold VX-R with the Ballistic Firedot Reticle. Except for the FireDot, the reticle looks very much like the S.A.B.R. reticle (Sabot Ballistics Reticle), which this scope has. When zeroed at 200 yards, the bottom circle / dot is on at 300 yards (18" drop), and the top of the circle is right for holdunder at both 50 and 100 yards (2" and 4" rise, respectively). This if for the factory 250 gr FTX, of course. This scope has enough definition for the ranges at which (my opinion) is best, i.e. under 300 yards, given how rapidly the trajectory drops after that (10 feet at 500 yards).

I believe I have seen posts on the board that others are using muzzle loader scopes and are good with them.

I would think they should hold up to the recoil just fine.

using the 250 grain FTX at 2,200 fps the "marks" on the ultimate slam are dead on to 300 yards as it is the bullet and velocity the scope was originally calibrated for. 3,000 rounds down the tube and mine is still holding up just fine.

I have one on my Bushy, and it works great. The reticles aren't perfect, but you can set them up for your zero and write them down. I put a little sticker on my butler creek flip up scope cap in case I forget...
