Hunting optic

Postby Jaket2016 » Thu Nov 12, 2015 4:30 pm

I had just built a lower and bought the bushmaster 20 inch upper. I bought this gun for white tail hunting in Michigan. Primarily I do deer drives and the shot is no more than 40 yards but, I do hunt out of a stand and still hunt as well. I was originally looking at getting an eotech or an aimpoint for it but now I'm thinking more of a 1-4x or 1-6x. My budget would be around $400 for the optic. Any pointers on what brands and or scope to get?

When I was younger, a lot younger, I drove my share of deer lines and the 1-2 second view as they dart one way or another would preclude a scope, regardless of power IMHO. Don't get me wrong. All my rifles wear scopes other than an FR8 and a 1903A3. My eyes, like my legs have seen better days. If I were to once again walk a "skirmish line" through the woods, I would opt for one of those holographic sights. Short of that, then a red dot unity gain scope, and yes I could get by with iron sights if I had to, but I'd have to wear my glasses.

Thanks for your time. Right now I have a borris speed dot on it that seems to work fine. But I was thinking about upgrading. I was thinking maybe I would get an eotech with the magnifier and only use the magnifier on days I'm not driving.

you might find that a 1-4 or5x set on the low end will be just as fast as a Eoch or Aimpoint.

One scope that peaked my interest was the 1-4 Millet DMS that Midway just had a blowout price on. Another that I've used in the past was a 1.5-4.5 Weaver Classic Extreme with the German #4 reticle that Natchez has on sale quite often. That was a very fast scope to get on target with.

good luck Sunday !!

The vortex pst 1x4 is good scope for the 450BM.

I have the Burris 2 X 7 that I'm real happy with.

Under $200, its good glass for the money.

+1 for quick acquisition with the German #4 reticle with both eyes open at 1x. I have it in a Nikon African/Monarch 1-4x & really like the scope.
