5 inch eye relief may be a bit much. I prefer something in the 3.5 range but that's just me. Well except in a Model 70 Featherweight 7mm Mag! Got split but good on one of them. Last time I ever shot a 7mm mag and it was in 1980. That XR looks like as good a BDC as any or this caliber and I personally have done good by them when a warranty issue arose. As in sent me a brand new one for one I bought used that was more than 10 years old, out of production and had a hard life with me before it went punk. So yeah, I'd consider one if I were in the market or a 3-9 BDC scope. A larger objective would be a better choice for sunrise/sunset conditions.

Go with the Vortex. In my opinion, they make a better quality scope. They also test all their scopes on a .50bmg

All of the hunter forums that I browse do not think very highly of Nikon. They often refer to them as bottom of the barrel. I did have a nikon force on my 454 casull, which I had to ask for my money back because the gun destroyed the scope

I do think that nikon has a great market tho. I think the Nikon prostaff is a great scope for any bolt gun / ar15 platform that does not have a lot of recoil for about 150 yards for the price

I just had a Nikon Prostaff go out on me on my .30-06 bolt gun. I lost the windage adjustment and the zoom. It is at Nikon now under warranty (purchased it in late 2014), and I expect I will get a new one. I was doing a lot of shooting with it to get ready for a hunt this fall (testing different ammo brands, sighting in, and practicing for longer range shooting). I'm somewhat concerned that the new scope won't hold up well with a lot of use either.

I have a Leupold VX-R on my 450BM, and have put a lot of rounds down range with no problems.

I have heard good things about Vortex, and I'm looking at one for a backup scope for my hunt.

I can't believe no one has one of these on a .450. According to Nikon spot on, with 171 yard zero the XR BDC 300 fits the ballistics very nicely. I think this would be better with a 30mm tube. Illumination would be even better. Any clue about the eyebox? Is it large enough for moving game in thick woods?
