New scope 450B AR

I need a new scope. I thought I wanted a 2-7 power because:
1) 2 power is wider field for close shots- if I see edible venison at 25 yards, I harvest it.
2) 7 power is (probably) enough. Maybe? I’m not a long distance shooter- longest hunting shot to date is 150 yards. (.50 cal muzzleloader with a 4 power scope and a shooting stick)

But 3-9 is far more popular, therefore easier to get, and available in more kinds and makes. A 2-7 is usually x33ish and a 3-9 is usually x40ish, so maybe brighter? Is 3 power ok for those closer shots? Recommendations?

It’s going on an AR, so it’ll be mounted a bit higher than on a rifle with drop at the comb. A bit more eye relief is good to reduce the chance of scope bite. I like optical scopes, and I’m not wild about red dot or any battery-operated sights. My favorite scope ever is a Redfield Widefield 1 3/4 -5 mounted in my .30-06.

A 2x7 is my all time most favorite variable, exactly for the reasons you have posted. I also agree its a great choice for the 450 regardless of platform.

I have had a Leupold on mine since I got it. Last fall I swapped it for a 1.5x6x42 Tasco EURO CLASS 30MM. This is not cheapo scope! Think quality European scope!

Good luck,
CW

I have a 3x9 Leupold on mine. Took a running pig at 25 yds after it popped out of the grass at my feet. I have to admit, I had to let him run out a bit before I could pick him up on the scope at 3x, but no problem with bring him down with the 250 FTX at that range.

I have a Weaver 4x K4 steel tube scope on mine. It's been on more guns than I can count.

Plenty of magnification.

I use a Nikon 3x32 compact BDC on my AR450, its not the best in low light but I've harvested deer from 18 yards to 180 yards.

I’m still using my Nikko Stirling for deer and my Pulsar XP38Trail Thermal for squealies.

I started to go with a Leupold VX Freedom 2-7 on my 450BM considering it will be used 100 yards and under. I went with a Sig Whiskey 3 3-9x40. For the price it's a clear optic and does well for my intended purpose.

I put a luepold vxr 2-7 with the flip up caps and the luepold cantilever mount on my 450 bushy. Works great so far. Its on a Bushmaster 450 Bushmaster upper.
Have been loading up some 245 grain spire points with little gun. The groups are phenominal, still playing with the grain amount. But the scope is holding up great.
