Scope Choices for .450 Bushmaster

Postby ebusa » Mon Nov 30, 2009 12:47 pm

Hi Guys,

I sold my Bushmater Predator upper and will be recieving my new 450 upper at the end of the week. My plan was to put my Zeiss Conquest 3x9 on it in my Larue QD 104 Mount. However, the Zeiss has a long eye relieve 4" so I have to mount it on the rail as far forward as I can to compensate. I love the scope, but think I may need to go a different route.

Since this a 16'' barrel, I was thinking about changing my optics/mounts all together. I was thinking about changing to different mounts to also save on weight. Also, I really don't need 9 power as this rifle will be strickly for hunting, varmint/deer up to 200 yards. I don't need a ballistic reticle either, want something simple.

So, after some research, this is what I came up with so far:

Nikon Monarch 2-8x32 Matte Nikoplex in A.R.M.S. #22 Throw Lever Rings (not sure what highth to go with - Options: Low - 1/4" rise (ARMS 22L) Medium - 1/2" rise (ARMS 22M) / High - 3/4" rise (ARMS 22H)

Anyone have any suggestions? Do you think this would be a good combo? I want a package that is lightweight and strong. I know I will save some weight with a smaller scope and changing the Larue mount. I plan on selling the Zeiss and Larue mount once I make my mind up.

Thanks
Evan

When you do decide to sell the scope and mount let me know. I need a mount for my LR-308 and I had actually planned on purchasing that same scope for my .30-06.

Would like opinion between these two scopes? Going to utlize the 104 Larue Mount:

Nikon 2-8x32 Monarch Riflescope $289.95 13.4 oz 11.5 inches long
Leupold 2-7x33 VX-II Riflescope $299.95 10.5 oz 11 inches long

Which has better glass?

I'd look for the Leupold 2-7 Ultimate Slam as it has the ballistic reticle for the 250 grain FTX @ 2,200 fps. That's us!

The products are pretty much of equal quality glasswise. The Nikon has a true 8x vs the Leupolds actual 6.6. I chose the Leupold over the Nikon b/c I've had to use their lifetime warranty, and they stand behind their products no questions asked. (And I'm not sure how salt water got in that adjustment knob ) I also like the fact that it's made in the USA. You can't really go wrong with either one tho as they are both great scopes. It really depends what you do most with your gun. If you are looking primarily at 100+ yard hunting, you might consider going up to the 40mm objectives to gather a little more light for low light conditions and the price isn't much higher.

Turns out my Zeiss worked out after all. This looks like a serious pissed off AR! LMAO Thanks for the suggestions. Will be hitting the range this weekend! I'll post the results!
