I've always had good luck with them. Currently all the scopes I own are lupys. The only "new" one I own is a 2-7 VX-1 I bought in a rush for my slug gun one afternoon when the frozen rain fogged my Ultra Dot. It's been on my .450 for about a year. That scope has seen about 100 rounds of 12 gauge slugs and 500 rounds of .450B, (including some pretty stout 300 and 350 grain loads), with no issues at all.

My .270 WBY has an old VX-III on it that has seen several hundred rounds, many hunts and many miles without any issues. I also have a scout scope on my truck gun that's had a hard life for many years with no trouble, and a 2X handgun scope that's been on 3 different .44 mags for many thousands of rounds with no issues.

On the other hand, I never had another brand of similarly priced scope last a single year without one problem or another.

I wanted something that would preserve the tactical look and feel along with some magnification, so I went with the Leupold Mark 4 CQ/T with illuminated reticle on my .450 Bushmaster. I think that the 3x magnification is adequate for the load, since it isn't generally regarded as a long range weapon. I have a .338 Federal in an AR platform that I used a Leopold Mark 4 2.5-8x36 MR/T M2 scope, which is awesome for longer range shooting.

If my .450 upper ever gets here, I plan to put a Millet DMS 1-4 x 24mm red dot. It has a 18 MOA donut and 1 MOA dot illuminated reticle. I've seen them for about $239. at Midway.

I just shipped my Leopold Rifleman 3-9x50 back to the factory. No matter how many turns of the ocular lens I couldn't get the target at 100 yards in perfect focus. I also had a refurbished Nikon Omega I picked up from natchezss.com It far exceeded the brightness and clarity of the rifleman. I had the range master take a look to verify my findings. He was a big Leupold fan and couldn't believe it. It was new in the box since April 2008. Everybody can have a bad day.... For what I here their warranty is great.

I'm not familiar with the "rifleman" line. I wonder if they're marketing scopes that are not made in house?

I've narrowed it down to 3 scopes - and only since I got some Bass Pro Shops gift cards from my birthday last month.

1. Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40
2. Leupold Ultimate Slam
3. Leupold VX-II 3-9x40

Just looking at reviews on Cabelas and BPS, the VX-II has really great reviews, but these people are throwing them on 30-30s, 30-06, etc. I just would like to use my gift cards and BPS has limited choices on scopes. Any additional recommendations will be appreciated!

Don't rule out the good ole' Weaver 1 x 3. I know a few folks with those on a 45-70 marlin guide guns. If they hold up there, they will hold up on the 450B.

Well I have around 300 rounds of 450 service on my Ultimateslam, and it hasn't moved, broken, or disentegrated so far. I'm sure the Phillipinos make a fine scope, but if I don't see a difference in quality or price, I buy American. (sound of me stepping off of soapbox).

Bob is correct in that made in USA is somewhat subjective, but the general rule is that more than 50% of the cost of the product is incurred domestically and the product must be "changed" in a significant form. Ie, from parts to whole.

I mounted an Ulitmate Slam on my .450 today. Good day at the range. Made me so happy I started a new thread. IMHO the Ultimate Slam is the way to go for the .450B.

Only downside to the day was shooting my old DCM with the 1/2 MOA national match sights. Still a great rifle that's capable of amazing accuracy. Unfortunately i just can't see like I used to. I tried a couple of different apertures, and I just can't really make out a 12 inch dot at 300 yards consistently anymore. I'd need to paint the entire backstop white to get the contrast up enough, and then wait until the sun was fully at my back. I can keep them in the black by shooting to where I know the target to be, but it's not MOA. I think I need to accept my age and flat top that rifle for some glass.
