SBR project, Barrel Length?

Postby Durdy1 » Tue Feb 02, 2016 1:25 pm

I am looking to build a SBR 450. I have thinking of a 12.5 in barrel over a 14.5, with a pistol gas system. I have not decided on manufacturer. I will be putting a ross break on for now.. I am also entertaining the idea in the future of an over the barrel suppressor. I want my overall length of barrel to be at 16 inches with suppressor. Any advise would be appreciated, and any tips and experience from the SBR builders would be great. Also Do the bolts need to be headspaced with the barrel I order? Thanks guys. I have been stalking the forum for a long time.

Pretty sure you will want to reconsider the length of the gas system.

11.5" carbine length E.H. Shaw via Franklin Armory. Quarter size groups at 50yds...old eyes are not good enough to take a red dot further.

How much difference is there between carbine gas system and pistol? Would an adjustible gasblock be a good idea? I think michigan will let us hunt with suppressors. I really want an over barrel suppressor.

Great. Now I just need palmetto to get an upper in stock and figure out which barrel and gas system for a 12.5 barrel.

I have the 11.5 from Franklin. Really enjoy it. I was excited to hear Michigan is now allowing suppressors, but something that would work like the SilencerCo hybrid are only rated down to 16" barrels.
