"Big-bore" upper receiver at Brownell's

For those doing an AR build for the larger calibers, say the 450b, I saw this on Brownell's website. Says it is heavier built overall, and has the ejection port already milled out for the bigger cases:

It seems odd that they would machine it for twin M4 feed ramps.....one on each side, when the big bores all feed down the middle.

When hunting, I like the option of sneaking a round in the chamber softly, IE Forward Assist. I have two alternate caliber AR uppers with slick sides and wind up having to ease the round into near-battery, then pulling the CH back about 1/3 travel and releasing it to get them to fully lock in. Not as noisy as a full bolt drop, but still noisier than I like.

i'm with hoot - while slick sides are cool, but for hunting - having a FA is the cats ass.

you can ride the bolt down - holding back the charging handle - and then one push with your thumb finishes the bolt into battery and you're nearly silent.


i can chamber a round that way than basically as quiet as my cousin can with his lever action 30-30 when we're loading our rifles by the car.
