New guy with a 450

Just wanted to say hello.
I just picked up a used Bushmaster 450 upper for my lower. I have not had a chance to bring it to the range for a sight in yet. I was wondering is there anything in paticular I should check on this upper for wear or anything?
I gave it a good look over. It looks almost new on the outside. I checked the rifle bore it looked good. Also took the bolt apart and cleaned and lubed it. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the Electronic Campfire, Aries...That Upper looks pretty good on the outside. I would say take a good look at the bolt and make sure is feeds and functions. If the inside looks as clean as the outside, I would say great! Make sure you have a factory mag with the proper follower, get some ammo and feed that puppy!!

Nice looking Rig Aries. Put er through the normal function check, sounds like you've checked to make sure things are lubed, make sure the magazine functions smoothly. Like TSD said, grab some ammo and head to the range.

Thanks for the help guys. I poped off two rounds in the back yard yesterday, no problems.
I'll head to the range this weekend and sight it in.

You are correct to clean an lube the bolt, but the packing oil needs to come off and Lubing the entire weapon is a Must. Here's a little ditty to help things along and keep you out of early trouble. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSpBJSgCvqg

This is one of dozens you can watch and I can't over stress..A new weapon needs Proper Cleaning and Lubing, BEFORE you take it to the range for the first time, packing lubes do not make a safe weapon for shooting the first time..

One more thing. What is a good range to sight this in at?
50,75 or 100 yards.
Thanks

Personal preference actually. Depends on your type of shooting. I sighted mine in for a 100 zero. I have a hold over reticule but have not had the chance to shoot past 100.

Ok.
I do not have the scope I want for this yet, but it is what
I had at the moment. It is a Burris 1.75-5x20. Not a lot of magnification.
I hope to deer, pig and what ever hunt with this rifle. Some target shooting as well. I am guess 50-75 yards might
be what I do.
