got the 450 on paper today

Postby Aries » Sun Jan 15, 2012 4:42 pm

Went to the range today.I did not have a lot of time , but I did get the 450 on paper. At 50 yards the last two shots where a little high and to the right.
I also brought my 223 Predator rifle. It is the lower left square. I am going back in a few weeks to work on the 450 some more.

Looking good. Did you do a brake in of the barrel or just shoot it? Groups will tighten up after shooting more, but it looks good Already!

Bushmaster does not recommend a break-in on their chrome lined barrels. There is a FAQ on this on their web page.-

http://www.bushmaster.com/faqs.asp then search for "barrel break-in"

What is the proper "break-in" procedure for a chrome lined AR barrel?

Answer / Solution

After firing a couple hundred rounds, the chrome lining will "polish out" from its light, flat gray, factory-new look to a brightly reflective, polished appearance. During this break-in period, excessive cleaning with solvent or brush should be avoided as that will only prolong the time (and number of rounds) it takes to achieve the final "bullet polishing" of the barrel.

That's good. I did not do a brake in either. Just shot the thing and cleaned it normal when I was done. Shoots great!

I did a really brief break-in / function test on mine, but it did not really break in until somewhere around 200-225 rounds. It was very noticeable when it did. No detectable change since then. YMMV

I've got a Predator too and find the 16" 450 to be just as accurate as it is. I recently shot a 20 round group that measured 2" at 100 yards with the Predator and a 1" 5 round group with the 450. Did you do any break in on the non-chrome lined Predator? I did not and find no issue with accuracy.

What kind of scope is on the 450? Looking for a more compact scope for mine. The 4.5-14x44 Wotac is a good scope but a tad large for the rifles intended purpose.

The 223 Predator rifle is not lined either, if I recall right. I also got that one used. So no break in.
The scope is a Burris Fullfield 2. 1.75-5x20mm on the 450.
