I put up a post asking about the possibilities of this round months ago. I was going to link to it but I can't seem to find it. There was a pretty good discussion on it.

I remember WildCatter posting that in his tests .50 cal bullets don't fly well. Sounds like he just copied WC idea and used a different caliber to skirt patent infringement. I don't get why hornady would get behind this while they still haven't expanded .450 line.

Marketing doesn't sell the steak. They sell the sizzle. New is often the main sizzle component at the beginning. People have short memories given all the new sizzles constantly being thrust upon them. Even when a manufacturer doesn't have anything new to offer, they fabricate a rehashing of the old and call it new for the illusion of sizzle. The 450B had significant sizzle back a few years, for the obvious reason of it's unique (at the time) caliber and because we weren't being inundated with new offerings as much back then. Now, it's just reliably good steak. ;)

50cals on a AR platform will always be close range hammers, close being 100-125yds imho.

Hornady makes bullets and ammo, they are one of the few, or maybe the only one, who will step up on an idea and make ammo, to which I tip my hat too.

we've heard about the 500ossm, and its awwwwwfully close to our trip nik.... but the pressures are lower.. supposedly they are going to be allowed to do this without patent infringement, because the pressures are so low in their rifle. we still have a lawyer investigating.

there are potentials with the 50 cal stuff, but stepping on someones toes with patent stuff? not very friendly.

thanks.
