16" vs 20" Barrel

Postby bangotwango » Thu Feb 23, 2012 4:59 pm

Newbie here. Thanks in advance for your responses.

Picked up a 20" Bush 450B upper yesterday. I have been doing some looking around and havent seen too threads quantifying the advantages disadvantages on the two different lengths. Other than the obvious weight and portability differences are there any other arguments either way?

Im sure that the 20 should get a few more FPS but other than that I can't think of any other advantages.
So that brings me to my next thought should I cut recrown and rethread my 20 to 16? Or are there any other lengths that people have had better luck with?

think it boils down to personel preference. I have both and set the 16" up with heavy bullets, the 20" I intended for something lighter and faster, but haven't got over my 16" "fix" yet :P

Ditto to personal preference! I have a the 16 inch, love it. There may be an upgrade in the near future for 20 inch to wring the most performance possible though.

Got that right and it'll break the 2500fps threshold, in the 20", using 230 grainer's. I've seen my lab loads at 3000fps+++, but I suspect you'll be happy with this in the 2800fps area.

I got talked into doing the first one, sometime soon, a little sooner than I had anticipated, by one of Our Guys, if he wants to come out, he can tell you about it..

I think I'm going to stick the the 20" for now as I would also like to get max performance out of the caliber. Has anyone had a 24" made yet? Seems like the extra 200FPS or so might get this honey around the 2600-2700 mark with the 250 FTX.

I think I'm gonna let Wildcatter step in on that question. Around here, he is King Julien and we are just the Lemurs.
