Am I on the right track with my build?

Postby AccurateOne » Fri Mar 09, 2012 9:49 pm

I currently have a Bushmaster 20" upper in 450 Bushmaster.
I just purchased gunnuts recoiless stock, a Ross brake, A2 buffer tube, Wolff XP spring and Spikes Heavy Buffer. Is this a good setup? Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks!

That's a great setup. The heavy spring would be about the only thing I wouldn't get myself, but the rest is the mark of someone who did their homework. It should make for a comfortable shooting experience as well as a rewarding one.

Welcome, that's what I have except for the brake and spring, works great. The stock really taimed the recoil.
Just so people realize the recoil on a stock set-up is very tolerable. Second time at the range I fired 100 rounds, no problem.
I'm just starting to get a little older and beat-up a little, so taiming the recoil extends my time.

I tried heavy buffer with heavy spring and did not like the feel of it. Heavy spring with hydraulic buffer feels better to me. I switched my heavy buffer into my 5.56 with standard spring and i really like the feel of it. to each his own though so try all the options you have and extras will be usable in other guns.

I appreciate all of the support. I do have a clarifying question.
If I have a wolff XP spring A2 length, can I use Spikes Heavy Buffer ST-T2? It seems this buffer is for Carbines.
Will it work as long as I have the A2 length spring?
Thanks

carbine spring will not work in rifle length tube. A rifle buffer will not work in a carbine tube. A carbine buffer could possibly work in a rifle tube. And a rifle spring could work in a carbine tube.

Thanks for the info.
So, If I understand this correctly, I either need a Spikes Tactical ST-TO Buffer Spacer that will allow me to shoot the ST-T2 Heavy Buffer for carbine and Wolff XP Carbine Spring OR a A2 Length spring and a Heavy rifle length buffer? Can I use a AR10 rifle length buffer witn the A2 length spring? Help is appreciated. I am confused about what buffer to use. Thanks
