Stripped upper?

Postby Stealthshooter » Sun Apr 01, 2012 12:01 pm

Hey guys. I have an Idea for a set of clamping blocks for an upper but I need a stripped upper so I can scan it into my computer. Do you know of any inexpensive naked uppers I can get?

If'n ya just need one to scan, PM me. I gotta ship you some brass too, so I might just have to make it a two'fer, brass and upper. You'll have to ship the upper back, with a cool Clamp, but hey. Might as well make one for a flat top, that way, it'll work for a standard model with the handle.

You do know that Brownells sells several types? Not trying to discourage you, just information stuff and besides, I bet yours will be better..

I know this is not a can you recommend a block thread?, but I'm a big fan of supporting it from within and on the outside at the same time when reefing on barrel nuts. Without a doubt, the BlockWorx block set achieves this and they won't break the bank. I was so impressed with their approach that I measured and milled another interior portion out of dense oak for my RRA LAR-8 upper since BlockWorx does not make a two-part block for that model. My large Delrin stock is dwindling, so I used a piece of really hard, dense, aged oak along with the outer portion of the BlockWorx set and the two work as great together on the LAR-8 as the original set works on my AR15 uppers. Barrel nuts are receiver killers.

EDIT: The fellow who used to sell them on Ebay ($29.95), sold out to Spikes and now they're $45.95! :( Still the best supporting block set IMHO.
