45 acp conversion for the 450 bushmaster????

Postby gtoboi65 » Thu Apr 26, 2012 12:03 am

Hello all. I'm new to the forum and new to AR's in general. I've been doing a lot of research on the 450 and am absolutely set that this will be my next investment. I have one question though......

With a standard .223 upper, they make a 22lr conversion kit. This kit is very simple and easy to install.

Why haven't they made a 45 acp conversion for the 450 bushmaster yet. In theory if a 22lr is doable then the 45 acp should be as well. This type of conversion would just be the cherry on top in my opinion.

Thanks for reading and I hope everyone will chime in with their opinions.

Because of chamber issues?
And you could always go this route.

Hmmm i wonder what camber issues it would have???

Seems like both use the same diameter bullets and straight walled brass.

I wonder if you could some how switch out the bolt and carrier like the 22lr conversion and use those magazines for the upper receiver that you posted?

Thank you for your reply

Personally if it were possible I would much rather carry an extra bolt carrier assembly and a few mags in my rang bag instead of an entire upper. That's the only reason I ask. Plus it would be far cheaper to go that route.

Welcome gtoboi65, this conversion isn't possible as the .450 Bushmaster headspaces on the case mouth instead of the rim. Barrel change is the only option. Regardless you will be more than happy with the .450 Bushmaster. Regards, turtle2.

Thank you for the warm welcome. I'm glad to be here. Thank you very much for clarifying why the 45 acp conversion bolt carrier and magazine would not work. Would be really fun to be able to change between the two while plinking though ;) o well, why go smaller once your there right :D
