There is a whole thread on what we learned about recoil reduction and noise with muzzle brakes, just do a search. There are graphs and such there. As an avid hunter and shooter, I strongly suggest use of hearing protection in all shooting conditions. I use the peltor 6s stereo muffs when hunting. Superman hearing when quiet... shooting muffs when firing. With muzzle brakes they aren't even to be considered an option.
