Pistol Calibers for Deer Hunting

Ohio has just passed straight wall pistol calibers for use in a rifle for deer hunting..........450B is not on the list !

Proposed hunting rifles are chambered for the following calibers: .357 Magnum, .357 Maximum, .38 Special, .375 Super Magnum, .375 Winchester, .38-55, .41 Long Colt, .41 Magnum, .44 Special, .44 Magnum, .444 Marlin, .45 ACP, .45 Colt, .45 Long Colt, .45 Winchester Magnum, .45 Smith & Wesson, .454 Casull, .460 Smith & Wesson, .45-70, .45-90, .45-110, .475 Linebaugh, .50-70, .50-90, .50-100, .50-110 and .500 Smith & Wesson.

What would be the hardest hitting and flattest shooting caliber to use that is available in an AR upper?

All-in-All it'd be hard to beat the 450b. Saying that accounts for all the variables that make it go boom. With all those cartridges, they may have over looked the obvious.

Question: Do the Buckeye's have a definition they are working off of??

They are allowing straight wall cartridges up to 1.8 in. long in the lower half of MI just like IN has adopted. The DNR are going to include these in their guide this fall for deer.

Hokie Smokes Rocky! We'll be able to use our AR's with 20" barrels (+-) as normal, in zone

Below is the response I received from Law Enforcement.

“The law in Ohio is currently caliber specific. If it is not on the list, it cannot be used. No exceptions.”

I hope you had taken the opportunity the wildlife council offered to accept comments on the "list" and asked that the 450 BM be on the "list". Maybe next year we can work together to get it on the "list".

I know wildcatter has opinion about muzzle energy but the 444 Marlin's exceeds the 450 BM's, yet its on the "list".

the easy answer to wildcatter's question is "nostalgia" and cowboy guns. But who has a 45 automag or half the others ?
An Ohio legal handgun cartridge is straight walled and has a projectile diameter 0.357 inches or greater.
i tried to get the 450 BM added to the rifle list but was not successful.

Hello all
I have been following HB4283 here in Michigan for the past two years. I have talked to a good many people about it and trying to get it passed. This bill would allow straight walled cases to be used in rifles in Southern Michigan. I have testified before the Senate comittee on this bill. We had about 20 supporters at the meeting. One dissenter which was the DNR. The bill passed the comittee with flying colors. It has been sent to the full Senate for a vote. As of yet it has not been brought to the floor for a full Senate vote. Last word I got back from MUCC which supports the bill it may not be introduced until after the Nov. elections (damn politics). That would be to late for this season. I have been advised the the NRC Natural Resources Commission MAY put it into effect for a three year trial period.
As far a the Bushy is concerned we do not know yet if it will be included. The bill at one time read straight walled handgun cartridges only. If modified to say straight walled cartridges sized (case only) 1.16" to 1.8" then it should be legal. I hope so I have a new unfired old stock 16" Bushy upper I would love to use it. If not I have a NIB Marlin 1894SS IN .44 mag I can use.
So don't be caught out there this year until you verify the law has passed.
