The Bartz mags were next but I ended up striking gold with Sig Sauer poly mags.

I tried E-Lander metal mags with varying length springs and 30 RAR single stack (which worked but held the round too high and caused barrel extension scoring on the brass near the neck). Tried mutilple other 556 mags on hand.

I missed out on a killer clearance deal from Sig they were running 2 packs for 25.00 but they're all gone so had to spend 18.00 a piece.

I just bought one of these Brenton mags and when hand feeding it, it only feeds the last 3. First 2 of the 5 still hang up on the feed lips. I tried the Bushmaster factory magazines first and they are horrible. I have a duramag on the way to try as well. After the original post in this thread I guess I expected more from the Brenton magazine but it's still not a for sure thing I guess.

The Sig mags that we discovered (a few years back) worked well as 450b mags were originally for the Sig556 model AR-15...but, those mags are not made any longer, and the replacement mags from Sig for the original design are not dual-use, so to speak.

I've converted a number of standard aluminum Mil-spec type mags by replacing the follower with one of the 450b/458 Socom followers from https://www.chambertactical.com/ and removing a turn or two from the spring. You frequently have to tweak the feed lips a tad on a tabletop or bench...the boolit should be slightly nose-up in the mag, not straight-across level or excessively nose-up. Excessively nose-up is the most common problem.

Ok update on the "bartz", now brenton magazines. So far with a little tinkering with the Brownells mag feed lip adjustment tool I can get 4 of the 5 rounds to feed reliably. The first round from the magazine is hit or miss. All my testing has been done with the bolt locked back and releasing the mag catch, sending the bolt home. I also bought a duramag magazine and it's worked every single round every single time. I'm going to continue to work with the brenton mag but duramag has worked right from the package. Looking at the followers they are slightly different and duramag has the front of the metal mag cut out in the shape of a half moon but it's a gimmick since the bullet/brass should be going up the feed ramp before encountering the edge of the magazine anyway. Side note for Brenton as a company, I left an email on the website for help with the magazine. I received my first call from the Bart but was unable to answer, the next week he called again. Not many many companies I know of take the time or effort to call multiple times. Once I started talking with Bart we went over my build tip to butt trying to troubleshoot. What company do you know of that sells rifles, calls and helps you with your personal frankengun? This guy was great and I will be looking to buy a rifle from them or refer friends to them in the future. A+ customer service.

I was planning on ordering some brenton mags and more than likely still will. My friend ordered me some 450 duramags for a birthday present. has anyone used these? I'm wondering if I will have to modify them.

I run ASC 7 rd mags no issue. Some say the Bushmaster mags are actually just rebranded ASC's. If that's true, then I have also tried the 5rd ASC's, and I have had no issues. I will say though, Just about every ASC mag I own, especially if it's not a .223/5.56 mag, usually requires some tweaking of the feed lips. Super easy , so a none issue.

As far as Duramags or Brenton's/Bart's, I have no experience.

And what about these followers that you just drop into 20 round metal GI mags?
