Another new guy seeking guidance

Hello and thanks for making me spend more $$ .

Picked up a 450 bushmaster upper today and slapped it on a PSA lower with a collapse able stock I had in the safe. It's definitely a little snappy and the 1st round stovepiped. The next 2 fired and ejected fine. I think I can make this work.

Bought a Burris PEPR mount, 60 Hornady rounds, and a spare Bushmaster 5 round mag. I know I probably paid too much, but it was from a local mom and pop shop type here in Michigan's thumb. Rather give them a few extra dollars than the big guys.

If it was Walsh you got the best price out there. It takes 5 to 10 rounds before it works reliability. The barrel takes longer to group the best. Out of the box mine grouped minute of deer. So I will shoot 3-5 rounds and clean it until I get a couple of hundred round thru it. Keep the bolt wet for the first 100 rnds. IMHO

every ar upper is going to need some time to break in.

thankfully the 450bm has enough gusto to wear off the rough spots pretty quickly.


always run them wet (like dripping BCG) for the first 20-50 rounds and you'll smooth things in nicely.


this allows the bcg to wear into the upper (lapping themselves togther smoothly and getting the tooling marks out) and then you can be a little less... attentive to your lubrication.


you still dont want to run them dry, but you dont have to keep them sloppy wet anymore either.
