Kind of have a Gryphon set up picked out, 18 " Stainless, bolt, gas block, gas tube and upper. Isn't listed on their site but I'm figuring about $520, $530. This is the only 18 inch mid length stainless barrel I could find.

Is this a good set up?

Are there others?

Welcome aboard Earl!
Accurate Arms 1680 is a reloading powder.

That's not bad deal and that bolt looks like its either dull chrome finished or NiB, both of which will make for easier cleaning. Free Shipping too.

C'mon Earl, take the plunge!

Earl Earl Earl Earl! ;)

That barrel isn't stainless, it's chrome moly and coated (don't know what). It also has a 1:16 twist, which isn't necessary.

Earl, only other company I can think of to get an 18" stainless barrel is Columbia River Arms. But it will probably be a custom order, so longer wait time, plus CRA is more expensive and don't come with bolts that I know of. They also only make 1:18 twist, which again is unnecessary. They do have a SS 20" mid-length gas ready to ship for $345 I believe.

OK, Just ordered the Gryphon upper kit, barrel, bolt, muzzle brake and of course upper. Mr. Gryphon let me exchange the 16 inch barrel for an 18 inch, no charge. It's in the mail already.

I already have a .458 SOCOM but was a little disappointed in the performance. My Brother bought a 450b and let me have it for a month to play with. With the bullet weights I and my brother are interested in, the 450 seems a better performer.
Now to get some dies.

Hornady the only game in town?

Earl, as far as I know, the Hornady dies are the only stock ones around. Numerous companies can make you a custom set at "custom" prices. Speaking of price point. Shop around before you plop down your hard earned money for the Hornady set. One can often find a "sleeper" set in some mom and pop store for less money that MSRP. Also, you will occasionally run into someone who is dumping their 450b setup including reloading components. Keep an eye on the Marketplace here as sometimes they will split up a package deal. In the meantime google Hornady 546452. That the p/n for the die set. Compare prices and also watch for the rare sale.

EDIT: Best price I've found is $60.67 and some change plus about $8 shipping Here
