Moose options

I've downed hogs and white tailed deer a plenty with my Bushy, but I'm going on an Alberta, Canada Moose hunt in 2018! I'm concerned about the construction of the factory bullet as I've had to pick out several shards of separation from medium game, and want something that will hold together on the way through a large game animal like moose. I remember gunnut had a really cool round, but what say you?

I'm not a fan of the FTX on deer size critters let alone moose. I know there have been of good reports on them, but personally I wouldn't take the chance seeing there are better options if you reload.

Can you take a AR into Canada??

275gr Barnes tsx or xpb. They are ver similar, but the TSX expands down to 1200fps, Xpb at 1400fps. So far they have had excellent results on game.

IMHO, The Barnes 275gr XPB would be a good choice for Moose, but in all honesty, the 200gr XPB would also.

Who would question taking a Moose with a 30-06 shooting a 180gr Remington Power Point bullet?

It only has 2/3 the TKO power of the 450b shooting a 200gr XPB launched at 2500fps.The 200gr XPB still has a higher TKO at 100yd than that 180gr 30-06 has at the muzzle!

Edit: I type slower than Bmt85 ;)

I was on several bear hunts in eastern provinces of Canada in early 90's. No semi-auto rifles allowed then. Has laws changed?

Excellent point! I need to look at the laws. I might have to buy another bolt action....

So far, it seems an autoloader can be used as long as it is larger than 23 caliber, has expanding bullets, and cannot be capable of shooting more than 5 rounds... I'll dig deeper.

Well it appears guns with barrels less than 18.5" are restricted, so I'm screwed. Thanks guys.

Looks like you have a reason to buy another 450, either a 20" upper or one of Randy's 22" bolt actions. :D
