I talked to a couple of buds in Canada, they both said AR's are restricted there and they can't use them for hunting, which I would guess we couldn't either.

C'mon someone loan him a bolt action for the hunt of a lifetime. If I had one I would. I was going to offer up my 20" AR upper until Al dropped the reality check bomb.

On my first, unsuccessful elk hunt, I used the 450 with a 20" barrel and the 250 gr FTX. My mistake was trying a 200 yard shot, and although I got two solid hits, there was not enough energy at that range to bring the elk down.

The XPB would be a better choice, but I would hesitate to shoot it at moose above 100 yards.

On my next hunt, I bought a Savage 111XP in .30-06 for under $400 with a rebate. Got the elk at 100 yds, and it went down on the first shot with a Remington Core-Lokt 180 gr PSP. I would recommend you look into a bolt action for your hunt. They are relatively inexpensive and will do the job. I will be using it again on another hunt later this year in a place where they don't allow semi autos, either.

Thanks for the great offer Al! The guys on here are great! I've decided to go with a bolt action like Jim mentioned. There's a possibility of a 300 yd shot, and I'm not going to miss that opportunity. I'm looking at a 300 win mag or 300 wsm. Doing research each night as time allows...

well then I'll dust off ole Ma Bell, my pet 338-378 Weatherby. Launches a 240gr Northfork a good bit north of 3200fps, 5 moose and 13 elk under her belt so she knows how to get the job done.

OMG!
I found what looked like a brass thermos that someone forgot at the range once. Turned out to be a 30-378 case. It made my shoulder hurt just looking at it. ;) I seated a 30 cal bullet in it for my cartridge display. It made a 30 cal bullet look like a 22 Nosler.

actually Hoot, Weatherby did their homework on the Accumarks brake, this things a absolute pussycat to shoot. Granted she does sound like dynamite going off, but everybody who's had the fear of being knocked back into last week, comes away with a 3 day grin :D pet load is 110gr of Reloader 25 and that 240gr Northfork,

I had a 30-378 for a couple years, then when Weatherby released the 338 version I was all over it and never looked back. It's been one of the most accurate out of the box factory guns I ever owned.

give you a idea on recoil, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mHvknvLifU really, this things a pussycat

Pretty impressive! I would've expected more recoil, especially without a scope!

If a rifle was manufactured with a barrel less than 18.5" its not restricted in Canada....if you cut a barrel that was say 20" to 16" its restricted....18.5" would be OK....

You could put a 10" factory barrel on a Ruger 10-22 with a butt stock in Canada...do it in USA you need a $200 stamp....

AR-15 cannot be brought into Canada....
