30RAR magazine in a 450BM

Postby mcb » Sun Aug 06, 2017 9:31 am

So I knew 30 RAR was based on 450BM but I had assumed that it used the same magazine. Was digging around on the net and found pictures of a 30 RAR magazine an saw just how different it was from a standard AR-15 magazine and even some of the 450BM specific magazines. I was curious if anyone has ever tried a 30 RAR magazine in their 450BM AR? Seems like it might feed better if for no other reason then the edges of the feed lips would not be digging into the cartridge as much.

Hadn't occurred to me...good thought, mcb! (my initials, btw) I must pursue the idea next range trip. If anyone needs mags for 30RAR, you can still get them from Healy Arms in Arizona (their website is being redone, so you have to call them for info)

I have and it fed fine. Pretty low capacity though.

Conversely, its easy to make a 450b mag work in the 30RAR. Just got to nick off a small spot on the follower. Doing so does not compromise its performance back in the 450b.

I think it an interesting design I would like to try but not for the prices I have seen on the very few 30 RAR magazines I have found. $30 is a lot when I can convert a 223 magazine for ~$20 including a new $10 458 SOCOM follower.
