Which muzzle break on a Bushmaster 91702 20 inch?

Postby giannid » Sat Aug 26, 2017 9:27 am

Si I've been told that it's been difficult to find the right muzzle break for this rifle as it's difficult to time properly with the crush washers provided. Anyone find a muzzle break that goes on this thing that timed easily with the included crush washers? Or has anyone found a break that uses a stop nut to time the break? Seems like that would be the best option.

The standard threads for a 450B is 11/16-24. There are a few options available. Most common around here is ross schuler's brake. Very inexpensive, yet very effective. Tromix is about the same price and has had good reviews, too.

As to a crush washer, rule is don't reuse themafter they've been installed, but I'm not really aware of anyone that offers one for 11/16 threads, so you might want to try it. You could try reaming out one for a 308 (5/8 threads). If you do, I've been told stick to YHM or DPMS, because they will actually crush down, unlike a lot the others. Another option is a shim kit from Badger Ridge. Only bad thing about them is the O.D. is a bit over sized, so depending on the brake you use, they might stick out and look a little funky. I currently run the shims with a Schuler brake, and they stick out a bit. Doesn't really bother me though.

Some of us are using plumber's Teflon tape instead of crush washers. Cheap and easy to time. The brake doesn't come off unless you want it to.

my brake is timed with black, high temp, rtv

put a small ammount on the threads, put tape on the barrel behind the threaded area (for easy cleanup), thread the brake on and let the RTV cure overnight.

no problems to date.

Ross brake is excellent, and Wilson Combat has a new one out also for 11/16-24 threads:
