Drop at 200

Just sighted in my 450bm with 250 Hornady blacks. I am 1" high at 100 and 26" low at 200. I have a 18" barrel, and 1in24 twist. Seems like alot more drop than what is advertised. Any ideas why?

Some thing not right, last factory ammo I shot was about 6" diff between 100 and 200. That was from a 16" factory

Welcome Aboard OM!

You are right, that does not compute. Lower sure, but not 26". How many shots did you take to establish the 1" high at 100 yds? If only 1, you could have had a fluke round while the rest of the box shot lower. I know that sounds like a loose assumption, but that's about all I can come up with. Assuming you took more than 1 shot, how did it group at 100 yds? After establishing the 1" high at 100 yds, did you change from say a BR setup to shooting offhand or vice versa. Give us more details.

Edit: I'm a slow typer and was working the ballistic calculator, so Al beat me to it.

Unfortunately not a typo, but it was a single shot. I only have 6 rounds through this gun and ran out of time to shoot more last night. I used a good adjustable shooting bench to take the shots. I have a 1 1/4 group at 100 yards. Moved out to 200 but only took 1 shot. and it was 26 inches low. I don't want to read into it much with just one shot, so its likely something went wrong so I am going to re shoot a group today at 200. Just wanted to make sure that wasn't normal performance from the 450bm. I;; keep you posted with results later today.

Maybe the difference in gas tubes? Mid length in an 18” VS carbine length gas tube in most others?

No I think I have a problem. I went out and shot 200 again. Didn't hit a 36" square target. So went to 100 yards and didn't hit an 18" square target. Moved to 25 yards and hit 12" high. Checked the scope for anything loose and didn't find anything. Cranked the scope down 2 1/2 full turns and am still 3 inches high at 25 with no more adjustment. I am assuming that my Leupold 3-9x50 vx2 broke or something. Couldn't handle the shock of the 450 Beast master! Not sure but going to order a new scope I need this thing ready in next few days. Any ideas what might have happened? Thanks!

as al said, its not the 450's fault... you must have just gotten a crap optic.

i would still check all the mounting screws are properly torqued and whatnot before you send it back, but Leupy is solid on its warranty so you've got nothing to lose other than some time.
