16"AR barrel weight?

Postby messer454 » Sat Feb 17, 2018 10:03 am

I am looking to build a 16" .450 BM. I am trying to get an idea on how much the barrel weighs compared to 16" .223, 6.8, etc. I admit my search abilities are challenged. If someone knows that due to the .45 bore that the barrel is going to be lighter than say a 6.8 barrel then that is useful info. However what I am hoping for is that someone can give me a weight for the 16" Satern barrels that are for sale at say Obsidian. It looks like somewhat of a heavy contour.

Thanks

Tromix barrels are 18", and the lightest profile you can really take a 450B. My Tromix build with a Midwest LWM15G3 handguard and Ross brake is lighter than my Bushmaster 16" Factory upper. It's actually one of my lightest uppers, I usually go with standard profile or heavier.

As far as Satern barrels, I know Satern sells them direct, then you have Obsidian and Brownells. Satern has the 16" Medium profile (still takes a .875 gas block), Brownells has the 16" Heavy profile (.936 gas block), and Obsidian has the Medium profile barrels. Apparently, Obsidian is now getting 18" barrels made, that's new. However, they are all going to have decent weight to them, especially the Heavy profile, and they all have the goofy 3/4-24 threading. You can custom order a Ross brake, but other than that, it's really slim pickings.
