A northern CO outfit has set up a 45-70 caliber AR in an AR-10 chassis... He was claiming 4000 ft lb of muzzle energy. Nice looking setup, I'm sure fully customizable, etc. The case is modified to feed properly.

lil out of my budget but always nice to see new stuff.

personally I like this KAK one in 450 Marlin, there was somebody else making them too but forget who. https://www.kakindustry.com/kak-450-mar ... rrel-upper

Then this one just came out, basically a rimless 500 S&W, would work dandy in the case length restricted states like here in Michigan . https://www.gunsamerica.com/digest/big- ... ory-ar500/

Watching this one with some interest too, I had some dummy rounds few years ago on a tad longer case, just never had the time to get it rolling. https://mdws.forumchitchat.com/post/500 ... 1305824373

I remember hearing about that, but like Al, a bit too pricey for me. You also have to cut the groove in the brass, that turns me off, too.

I'm watching Biggdawg's 500 WTF (Al's last link). I'm also waiting for Biggdawg to start with the WSM cat's (I think he said he is). Something in the .358-.458 bullet diameter would be a lot of fun! I definitely want a big bore AR10, even though I don't need it, or have a place to shoot it at the moment.

I started with a AR10 Raptor when it came out, was a little disappointed in velocity, was never able to get a 240gr past 2300fps without pressure issues. That was about the same time I figured out I had a hot lot of Lilgun, and didn't have any other powders to try at the time.

I did build a bolt gun on it thou and she's a screamer.

Yeah, I remember when the 45 Raptor came out, there were a lot of people having pressure issues. Like Al, they would end up below or right at the 450B. Then looking at the guys who could push past that, they weren't getting much more than what we can push the 450B up to (past book loads). On top of that, it was in an AR10/LR308 platform. Didn't really see the point. I was looking at maybe going 45 Vrap, but again, not a huge difference for what the 450B is capable of. Just an FYI, the 45 Vrap is the 45 Raptor in an AR15 using over sized bolts and barrel extensions, which you can't find.

For the AR10/LR308 frame, I was thinking about the 450 Legendre Mag. However, at that energy level, might as well run something in .458 so you don't have to size bullets. Now though, KAK has Magnum bolts available for the AR10/LR308 (which is what I assume Biggdawg is going to be using for his 500 WTF), so that opens up wildcats on the WSM cases.

I'm wondering why they bother cutting all the .45-70 cases to work when they could have simply chambered it in .450 Marlin.

Maybe the belt on the 450 Marlin scared them? KAK offers it though.
