What can 45-70 do that 450 Bushmaster can't ?

After seeing a couple of posts about 45-70 I just got curious. Because ballistically it is best I can tell any differences between the two are marginal at best. I'm open to the idea I might be missing something though.

Among deer hunters here in Ohio, whenever the question "which caliber rifle are you using or are considering using?" is asked, it seems to be about 40% are going with 450G, 40% are going with 450B, and the remaining 20% are using 357 Magnum or 44 Magnum.

ANYhow other than the fact that the shape of the 450 Bushmaster cartridge is likely to work much better in a semi-automatic and the shape of the 45-70 cartridge is likely to work much better in a lever gun, is there any real advantage to one versus the other?

think whatever platform your comfortable with. You guys still limited to 3 shots?

If I lived in Ohio and wanted the ultimate deer gun, I'd look at a Browning BLR or rebarrel a Savage to 450 Marlin, load either the Hornady 250gr Monoflex or the 300gr Barnes TTSX over a case full of H4198 and be one happy camper.

We're talking Deer gun here not Bison gun right? ;)
They're not the same BMI. The lightest 450b load is still overkill for whitetails. You don't need to see how close to excessive pressure you can go, to get the job done on deer. Yeah, someone, somewhere, pooched a deer shot and he got away. It happens even with a 7mm Magnum. I've seen it in my own hunting party. There is no caliber substitute for ethical shot desisions. :|

You can load using pressure signs without braking gun, get same Power from shorter action and sub-sonic loads are easier to make from shorter brass.
