My younger Brother says that the old timers he serves with said that others used to use the barrel of their M16A1's as a pry bar (usually on armored vehicle tracks) and would bend them.

However a new barrel for under $50, yeah I can live with unusual.

Sounds like a Government profile. Some companies still make that profile today, don’t know why though.

Thank you that link had a great article on the barrel we have. (My Brother's has the grenade cut in the barrel, looks just like the early issue M4.) There are tons of barrel options for the AR, personally I like the heavy barrel's which are .850 from the gas block out to the muzzle; which seem to be the current standard on Bear Creak's .450b uppers. Their gas block mounting (with 5 set screws) is appreciated as well! For a 16" barrel the thing really performs.

I bought the 16" heavy barrel. No problems with the upper, just need some trigger work.
Some of my targets, combined into one.
Going to be a great hunter.
Hornady 300 XTP MAGs were used.

My BCA barrel wasn’t a complete upper. I modified an upper by opening up the port. The BCG is AR Stoner from Midway USA. Also the mag is AR Stoner. VERY happy with my barrel.

250 grain Hornady FTX. Handloads, But factory are almost identical.

225 grain Hornady FTX

Both are 100 yd 5-shot groups. I adjusted the scope for off-season target shooting- normally I shoot 3 1/2” high at 100.
