What ammo would you suggest for bison hunt? I have never hunted bison before.

welcome aboard.

my pick would be a 275gr Barnes, if you don't load, I think Black Buttery fly has it.

What about 260 grain fusion? I am pretty new to 450. I haven't shot anything but frx so far and that was just to check function.

Either would probably get the job done but I'm with Al on the 275 Barnes TSX for two reasons. The Bison I've seen appeared to be thicker boned and thicker across the middle than white tails, which the Fusion looks designed for. The XPB/TSX bullets are tough cookies!

Second, I don't like finding bits of lead in my meat. Makes me wonder how many bits I didn't notice before swallowing them. I suffer from neurological problems from exposure over the years, to heavy metals. While my damage is already done, why invite it upon yourself or possibly younger folks who might dine with you, if you have the choice not to?

Just my opinion...

I tried blaming my mental problems on lead exposure but no one bought that explanation...

I ended up ordering the 240 grainers from bear creek ballistics. I was going to go with 275 xpb but I read with my twist groups were around 1.5" at best. These are still all copper, better bc and more velocity. Will see how they work.

Been looking at those Bear Creek bullets from time to time too.

What gun you running them from?

My 16t Apache barreled 700 and my 10t Ruger #1 will pile drive the 275gr Barnes XPB's all day long with their pet 300MP loads. I need to get a box of the 275gr 450 TSX version to compare for accuracy.

I see Bear Creek Ballistics has other offerings now. Before it was just the 285gr round spec'd for bolt actions and single shot only.
