Next level armament or KAW muzzle brake/comp for hunting?

Postby Sh40674 » Mon Nov 04, 2019 5:27 am

New here, been lurking but cant make up my mind. Just got a hear creek 16"upper, and this gun will be for hunting only here in Iowa. The 2 I keep coming back to based on reviews are the next level armament and the KAW linear.

From my reading the NLA does a decent job with recoil/lift and helps with the noise a little, and the KAW doesnt do much for recoil or lift but pushes the blast away and really helps with noise. I dont wear hearing protection... and I'm used to hunting with a 12 gauge, so is recoil even an issue? Havent shot it yet so I dont know how the recoil compares to a 12g. Also not overly concerned with muzzle rise as like I said it's for hunting only, hopefully only taking 1 or 2 shots at a time.

What would you guys do? What would you thread on the end? Is the recoil as bad as I am reading? Or is it better than a 12? How about noise?

Hi,

I don't think recoil is that bad -- maybe sorta like a 20 guage.

I built my own upper, but use a BCA 18" barrel, and it's been dead on accurate shooting 225 and 250 grain FTXes.

imho

If you have been hunting with a 12 gauge, assuming a pump, the recoil will be less with your AR450.

There might be a slight benefit for accuracy with less recoil. Not everyone is a "match shooter" so it might not be noticeable. But maybe you are anal retentive and strive to split hairs....?

I would advise using some sort of hearing protection no matter what or when you are shooting. If you shoot inside a blind (even a cloth/fabric unit) you will regret no hearing protection.

i can attest to that. even with the muzzle well outside a box blind, without hearing protection you're going to ring your bell with a brake on the 450.

been there, done that. dont recommend buying that t-shirt.

This is one of the reasons I'm looking into the KAW linear brake... worth it?

I've got Kaw Valley linear brakes on both of my 450's and they do a good job for blast forwarding and recoil reduction. Ported brakes are a bit better for recoil, but much louder. Recoil from my 450 is comparable to my 308 AR10.
