Some questions about a sub $500 complete 18" 450bm upper

Postby RBDMTJager » Tue Apr 04, 2023 7:39 pm

As I am right handed, and my wife is left handed, both my sons while they are carbon copies of me are left handed. Now for my dilemma.
As many here likely know I own a made for CVA by Bergara Cascade in 450BM and I absolutely love that rifle. Unfortunately it doesn't come in left hand in 450BM. Only left handed BA rifle I can find in 450BM is the Ruger American and it is rather pricy for what I get. That leaves me with either a single shot break breach rifle or an AR upper for one of my many AR lowers I have.

I am trying to find enough information to make an informed purchase on a complete 18" 450BM upper assembly in my price range of under $500. The uppers I have found so far have been ones sold by:
TLH Tacticle
https://members.tlhtactical.com/18-Aero ... p_556.html
Delta Team Tacticle
https://www.deltateamtactical.com/dtt-c ... 52433.html
Davidson Defence which apeares to be the same as DTT
https://davidsondefense.com/Davidson-De ... _4187.html
And of course Bear Creek Arsenal
https://www.bearcreekarsenal.com/450-bu ... nrail.html

Was hoping someone can give me a first hand recommendation on a good reliable 18" complete upper in 450BM and any experiences anyone has with the uppers I listed.
Lastly using handloads what kind of 100 and 200 yard accuracy can I expect out of a AR chambered in 450BM.

Great thanks,
Arthur.

About 8 years ago I had an injury to my right shoulder....I could not shoot right handed at all it was a major injury and having shot right handed it was either shoot left handed rifles and shotguns a handgun or nothing at all....I worked threw it and shoot left handed no problem....
There were some guns that were only made for a right hand shooter and I liked using them very much....so I just shot them left handed and they work the same.....BANG and a hole.....never had a problem shooting a right handed gun left handed...
I would never get a gun just because it's left handed to use....if I like it I buy it and use it.....

It's very easy to make a right handed AR-15 so it can be shot left handed and doesn't cost much....just change the safety to ambidextrous....you're done....my AR-15's were ambidextrous long before I had my injury....

I'm left handed but I have shot right handed all my life because my dad was right handed. I'm one of those people that you run into from time to time who does not have a dominant eye. I cross over on many things. I believe lefties, which I consider myself one of, can adapt easier to a right handed operation since we're a minority and constantly have to do things in a predominantly right hand world. Hard right handed people like my wife, have more difficulty doing something left handed. All that dribble is to say, let them learn to operate a long gun right handed as long as it doesn't pose a dominant eye problem. Classic AR designs have a shell deflector for exactly that reason.

I wouldn't spend a dime with any of those outfits. Total QC craphoot. BCA seems to have decent CS if you have a problem, but the others are near impossible to get a resonse from.

Thanks for the hears up.

Great thanks for the replies.
If I decide to buy a complete upper in 450BM Ill go Bushmaster, or just by a complete Bushmaster AR in 450BM.
Or just by a LFT hand Ruger American

Same. My dad was right handed on everything.
I’m a southpaw. But I shoot right handed very naturally. However, I can shoot left-handed if I want to. I shoot a bow right handed naturally. But I can shoot a bow left-handed because I taught myself how to do it because my son’s left-handed and I had to teach him. I play golf right handed. Badly. However. Don’t even ask me to try golf left-handed. It’s bad enough trying it right handed. If you think I’m dangerous golfing right handed, i’ll bring a whole new meaning to the term ‘INCOMING’, well, you get the point.

we have a couple of the BCA uppers in the extended family. their 18" 450's shoot great.

we had one that had a poorly heat treated extractor, but CS jumped right in and took care of the issue.
