I based the extra125fps from what wildcatter said when he replied on barrel choices.I'll have a midlength gas tube and AR-performance locking system.I might be able to get the velocity up a little more. The main reason I went 20 inch, muzzle blast is farther from my ears.I have a 16 inch Marlin 35rem if I need a short barrel rifle.I'm used to long barrel rifles.I bet the short 16 inch 450 is a lot more fun to carry,I just don't walk much anymore and if I do the 35rem goes with me.

So, I'm to blame..lol..

I'm confused, did our 45r pick a Blond, Brunet, Red-Head or did he go for "Less-Filling"..lol

So are you guys getting better than 2,300 fps with the factory 250s out of the 20" barrels?

I never have, in fact some of my lots yield something slightly over 2000fps.

The Hornady quoted 2200fps (for std ammo), is from a 24" barrel. Now having said that, I am typically rewarded with speeds well north of 2200fps, with a 20" barrel..t

Another vote for the blondbrunetteredhead as long as she is toting a 16 inch 450 bushy. I have nothing to back up my opinion on either except that's what I like! That's my story and I'm sticking to it!!

I purchased the 20" barrel, as I was hoping the extra FPS would give me a little more range.

I'm just asking as the anecdotal evidence seems to suggest that the factory ammo velocity variation gun to gun is more significant than the variation due to barrel length. Similar to the situation with straight wall revolver cartridges where any 6" .357 may or may not produce more or less velocity than any other 4" or 8" barrel gun.

Do you know what you'd call a "blondbrunetteredhead" with a 16" 450b..

Of course you'd call her Ma'am..t
