450 Bolts?

Well, I finally located some 450 barrels, and they are in the way. They came with the gas block and flash hider. Now I am having issues finding bolts. I have not called Bushmaster yet, and I really don't have any expectations that they will sell them alone. Does anyone know where to come up with about 3?

MGI sells them.

I got the barrels from MGI. The guy told me that they didn't have any bolts. He said that he couldn't even come up with one for his own 450 that he was putting together.

I guess it would be asking too much for them to mention that on their web site, eh?
That having been said. I put my 450b bolt next to my Grendel bolt and down to the extractor, they look identical. AKA 7.62x39 bolt.

I took a look at the dimensions on the 450 and Grendel cases. The 450 is .499 at the head, the Grendel is .445. It would be nice if there is enough play for it to work, but I am not sure if it would. I got in touch with Bushmaster. They don't sell just the bolts, only as a BCG for $138. I guess that is not the worst price out there.

Keep in mind the rebated rim of the 450b. Though spec'd at .472, Hornady brass comes in the door with about .462-.465 rims which fit into the roomy 7.62x39 bolt. By all means, do what you choose, but last year's spring build rush was held up at one point by Bushmaster waiting for more 7.62x39 bolts to come in. If you have your 450b brass already and a Grendel bolt, see for yourself.

I don't have a Grendel, but have been planning on 7.62 x 39 build. I might wait and give the 7.62 bolt a try before I place an order from Bushmaster. Thanks for the info.

Not quite sure what we're doing here, but I'll take a stab at it anyway.

If we're trying to substitute a ak/ar bolt for the 450b build, it's not generally doable as a drop in option, the 450b just has a bigger rim the the ak. but things can be done. Why not just take any ar bolt and have it opened up to the .473 rim standard. You can use the ak/ar extractor as constituted, but you've got to let the bolt slam home under full power or the extractor won't pop over the .473 rim and the forward assist won't work very well at all, if you let the bolt down slowly.

You're going to have to head space the chamber, of that mgi barrel, to the bolt your going to get, so just have the smith open up the bolt you choose and either have him adjust the standard .223 ar extractor or use an extractor designed for the ak rim.

Hope this helps..t

I put in for a custom build 450 2 months ago and was told they are waiting on bolts to arrive.Barrel was in but no bolt to go with it.I guess with AR's some parts are hard to get in on time, especially the high performance ones.

I'm a big believer in admitting when you're wrong as it's the ying to balance the yang from when you're right. I must have been having a mental fart when I said you can use 7.62x39 bolts as-is for the 450b. I checked back in the forum and it turns out that last year, when the rush was on, Bushmaster was waiting for 7.62x39 extractors not the entire bolt. Sorry for the disinformation.
