New Member With a Question

I have been looking on this site for several months trying to make up my mind on a dedicated lightweight hog AR-15.

I was wondering how much your Thumpers weigh? If you dont mind post a pic and show off your gun and tell whether or not it is a lightweight or a Fatty.

On bushmaster's website they show a 16" carbine at 8.5 lbs unloaded this seemed really heavy compared to a 16" HBAR.

I am just looking for a well balanced gun that can be free handed and packed on a texas hog hunt!

Thanks guys looking forward to the responses and pictures. :D

figure the .450 is not any different other than the barrel and bolt, however the barrel is much heavier than a standard barrel, this is most of the added weight

when you have to put a .452 bullet down a barrel, the barrel is going to be bigger in diameter than a .223/5.56....you are not going to build a 'light weight' AR in .450 bushmaster....same as my 458 SOCOM, the diameter of the barrel is large to compensate for the bullet

now that being said, if you went with a short barrel with appropriate paperwork, you can cut some pounds....

Sorry, I don't remember seeing this post before.

I don't have photos, but I do have video:

Just using a bathroom scale, with scope and bipod attached, it's about 10 lbs.

Here is a 20 inch.

I would agree about 9-10 pounds. But it balances great. And shoots very nice.

The 16" is light and a dream to carry in the brush. I wouldn't hog hunt with anything else inside of 200 yds.

You new guys, take heed here, bushmeister has his all wrapped up. He knows if a charging pig starts at fifty yards and has murder on its mind, you don't have time for a second shot, if you're using a bolt or lever gun..
