Finally shot mine today. Holy hell, I see why they call it "Thumper" now. This thing kicks like a mule. It's quite a bit of report too.

Shot my .308 for the first time today as well and it seemed mild in comparison.

It does kick a little :D I was a little concerned about the noise when I was about to pull the trigger on my 194lb russian boar, but I remember thinking afterward that I hardly heard it go off! And the recoil was almost non-existent :D I guess adrenaline can do that to you...

I would agree with you on both the recoil and noise.. I dropped a doe behind my house and really dont remember either..

I took mine out for the first time this past weekend as well and it was a blast! I went office space on an old printer/scanner that was broken and it put a huge grin on my face. I will say the kick was harder than any of the other guns I had out this weekend which included a 8mm, a Mosin, and my 12 gauge semi.

I have the Marlin 1895 45/70 and the 450 Bushmaster Thumper.
The 45/70 is definitely harder in the recoil. I also have a hydraulic buffer in a collapsible stock.
There are two different hydraulic buffers from Bushmaster, the fixed stock hydraulic buffer is longer.

Anyway, the 45/70 only has 4+1 round capacity and the 450 Thumper has 9+1. :geek:

Run the Sig556 mags with 11 + 1 in the chamber. Usually sold in pairs that attach to each other with included connector it gives you 22 rounds of mag capacity. I have yet to try it but the 90 round MWG drum mag should fit 30 or more. The .50 Beowulf guys seem to be having good luck with this drum. http://www.mwgco.com/ar-15_accessories/category/90_Rounder.html

The recoil isn't as bad as I thought it would be, but it is definitely not light when shooting off a rest or offhand doing range-work.

Tell you this. I was planing to lose about 30 lbs this summer, but the shooting this rifle I changed my mind. I think it will kick me of the seat if I do :-)

:D :D :D :D

I did the bang-bang on my baby-deer this fall. Wish I didn't. Only wasted about 2 pounds of meat with the second shot :-( She went down anyway. Poor baby thing :-(
