Does it click into place when you push in or pull out the takedown pin? If that detent is still there it should have a pretty positive feel as it clicks into and out of place. If it is just the spring catching the pin it may seem to stick or have a little more of soft feeling when it stops out or in.

Just installed this same stock last week. Used automotive silicone spray inside the foam, then on tube. Slid them together halfway in a second. Resprayed the tube and got the foam on the rest of the way. Total maybe 15 seconds. As far as the plunger and spring, if the plunger is missing the spring should go all the way into the receiver (no spring protruding). If no plunger is installed and you still work the rear take down pin, you risk permanently damaging the spring when sliding the takedown pin. The spring may catch in the takedown pin recess where the detent should be while in the closed position. Hope this helps...
